Faith is Something You Do

Faith is Something We Do

You became imitators of us and of the Lord; in spite of severe suffering, you welcomed the message with the joy given by the Holy Spirit. 1 Thessalonians 1:6 (New International Version NIV)

It’s so easy to let our circumstances determine our moods. Paul reminds this group of new Christians that new life in Christ had brought them joy despite the difficult circumstances they were facing. Their joy was not fleeting. Instead, they had welcomed the message of salvation with joy that wasn’t dependent

"Naked I came from my mother's womb, and naked I will depart. The LORD gave and the LORD has taken away; may the name of the LORD be praised" Job 1:21 (New International Version NIV)

You would be partially correct If you said a caterpillar can’t fly. Actually, a caterpillar can fly, but it must have a transformation first.

The butterfly begins life as a caterpillar.  It undergoes metamorphosis. When it's time for the butterfly to emerge, it must struggle and fight its way out of the cocoon. The worst thing…Read more

"When Israel became strong, they pressed the Canaanites into forced labor but never drove them out completely" Judges 1:28 (New International Version NIV)

Have you ever hired a contractor to do some work and ended up having to spend time to get them back to finish the job? The small unfinished projects are irritating and create ill-will between you and your contractor. If you’ve been involved in a building project, you have surely had this experience.

God wanted his people to finish the job. However, many…Read more

17 Now Elijah the Tishbite, from Tishbe in Gilead, said to Ahab, “As the Lord, the God of Israel, lives, whom I serve, there will be neither dew nor rain in the next few years except at my word.”Then the word of the Lord came to Elijah: “Leave here, turn eastward and hide in the Kerith Ravine, east of the Jordan. You will drink from the brook, and I have directed the ravens to supply you with food there.”

Therefore Jesus said again, “Very truly I tell you, I am the gate for the sheep. All who have come before me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep have not listened to them. I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved. They will come in and go out, and find pasture. 10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full. John 10:7-10 (New International Version NIV)

When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life." John 8:12 New International Version (NIV)

Darkness is a pervasive way of living and viewing the world. It is a place of deception, evil, and death. To follow Jesus means to allow him into our heart and let him cast out the darkness that plagues us.

Dear God,

Thank you for sending Jesus to cast away the dark fears that so easily envelope me. I pray for…Read more

3 These are the nations the Lord left to test all those Israelites who had not experienced any of the wars in Canaan (he did this only to teach warfare to the descendants of the Israelites who had not had previous battle experience): the five rulers of the Philistines, all the Canaanites, the Sidonians, and the Hivites living in the Lebanon mountains from Mount Baal Hermon to Lebo Hamath. They were left to test the Israelites to see whether they would obey the Lord’s commands, which he had given theirRead more
